IS THIS REAL HITLER CIVILIAN MEDALLION/BADGE?

Found at estate sale - but below is a description and the reasons their example is a modern copy may be mine (the shiny part) - is it, or has mine been cleaned like a old coin & may be brass/brass like underneath?
BIG difference is value.

Hitler’s Dank Gau Westfalen-Nord - Winterhilfe 1933-1934 badge (not an original)
The Hitler’s Dank Winterhilfe was an annual fund-raising event within Nazi Germany from 1931 until 1945 and raised money to assist the needy during the cold months from October through to March. The types of items provided to those in need were generally clothing, food and coal. The official name was Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes (Winter Relief of the German People) and was run by the Nationalsozialistische Volkswohlfahrt or NSV (National Socialist People’s Welfare Organisation).


Each year different badges were issued and sold to the public to raise funds. More elaborate badges such as the type illustrated above, would have been awarded as a token of appreciation to more generous donors. A 'gold' plated version of this badge was also issued.


The badge illustrated above is a modern copy but unable to tell how recently it was made. What sets this badge apart from an original and genuine example are;


• Sharpness of edges & relief of details are lacking, has the appearance of a cast badge rather than being die-stamped.

• Plating is wrong...genuine examples of this badge would be a thin nickel plating whereas this badge is a bright chrome or foil plated. Plating not firmly adhering to underlying metal & peels away relatively easily in places.

• Edges on this badge are coarse.

• Pin type on this badge is totally wrong. Please see pic in link below and compare it to a genuine example.

• Where the plating has peeled away in parts, the underlying material is a silvery coloured alloy. An original badge is made of ‘tombac’ - a copper/zinc alloy similar to brass.

your source seems to be "beyond good and evil".
the WHW already existed in other forms before the Nazis took over. it was an enforced supplementary tax by the NS regime and at the same time a means to control the population's loyalty. those families that bought the annual tinnef were given a special nail that was hammered to the door post; the Blockwart controlled if everyone was having the correct amount of nails - and of course the German's favorite sports - bad talking about neighbors - was in full bloom.
I don't see any reason why the shown one should not be an original one, simply missing the needle. these were given to outstanding sellers - for the most part HJ and SA - and were always of mean to bad quality.
