    Hi all,
I picked up this sculpture at my local Honey hole store and was hoping to get the Signature Id and find out how old she might be.
She is 14 1/2" tall. 7 1/2" wide at the base and weighs in at 5 lbs
I can barely make out the chop marks so the id may be far away.

Oh the only damage is a tiny chip on the very top of her crown.

Sorry mate, nothing to say about the marks, I'd just have a look for stylistic comparables to determine relative quality/age. Nice piece BTW

I haven't found any with a group of chop mark's. Most have 1 or 2. Also the top mark looks like a vase or bottle with the mark inside?

Not clear from the pics, but looks like most (possible) characters aren't printed clearly enough. A rubbing might help, or trying a tangent light pic?
These Guanyin stattuetes were common in Macao when I lived there. Most all businesses had shrines with a variety of gods. Similar pieces were often used. Not much help I'm afraid.

Have you tried using thin paper and#2 pencil to do a rubbing?

Yes and it didn't work very well.

My girlfriend would describe that bottle as a mu-loh, she has a few of them, a double-gourd shaped vase. You see that device used from time to time as an artist's seal ("chop").

No doubt it's the maker's mark, but no idea who (and I don't really think it makes any difference who made it, the quality speaks for itself IMO)

Unfortunately it's too indistinct for me to get anything useful from. Part of it may be a cyclical date but I really can't tell. BdC is a specialist area but the glaze looks 20thC to me. The internal 'dabbing' of the porcelain to the mould walls looks a bit too obvious for a very old one as well.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

How are you displaying the ceramics you've been collecting? Just curious... :)

Actually I've been working on a display. Will post a separate thread. Originally I was going to display only Japanese and my Nippon but now its Including my Chinese finds.

Nice work on bringing the characters out! The characters inside the gourd are 德化 (De Hua,) a county in Fujan province in China. Probably where it was made. The gourd is a Buddhist auspicious symbol. I've a couple of Chinese friends who are Buddhists. I'll try to get hold of them and see if they have further input. I'll try to work on the other characters, but they aren't all that clear (combination of a bad print on the ceramic and probably my eyes getting old:bored:)
    ....
The other characters I can only partially make them out:

    佛 X 子 何 朝 X X X X

Sometimes these inscriptions are a line from a Buddhist sutra, so a few characters may bring out the full line --- that's where my Chinese friends might be able to help. Will keep you posted. The first character, 佛 (fo) is Buddha, BTW.
