No questions, thought some folks might like to see this. I picked this album up today, has some photos inside but most are in bad shape as are the pages. Here are a couple that are interesting - love the dog with the cane. From the writing on the backs, this is from Quebec.
The cover is leather so I should be able to clean it up, the brass clasp is complete and works so it is a shame about the inside.

    Hi,
Great album. I have had good luck cleaning those album pages with bread,
it is the only reason to buy Wonder Bread. Cut off the crust and roll up a couple of slices and wipe the pages, the damp bread will remove a lot of dirt keep turning the bread roll so it is a clean area. The bread will crumble so be sure to dust out all the crumbs. I vacuum them just to be sure. Just put a piece of nylon net over the tube or use pantyhose. I have a girl friend that stencils designs over the edges of the pages, hides the yellowing.

Thanks greg, I will give that a try. Do you dampen the bread first?

    Hi,
No Wonder bread is damp all ready. Any soft white bread would work.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Nice photos! Too bad about the damage and fading, but I love the sort of comedic one.

You meant the photographer of the dog was from Quebec, right? The other one is from Great Britain. I found a little bit of information about the photographer, here:
    http://www.lib.cam.ac.uk/rcs_photographers/entry.php?id=105

Says the studio was known to be active in the 1880s.

The following entry says he was an optician also, at the 18 Atlantic Road address from 1879-1888: http://www.photolondon.org.uk/pages/details.asp?pid=270

Somebody else took over the studio after that. It also gives his full name as Francis Champneys Burnham.

Thanks for the information fig! Sorry, I wasn't very clear - on the backs of the other photos, standard family type photos, is the writing that makes me think they are from somewhere in Quebec.
