Found this hat insignia in a box...noted 1790

    So I am known to local auctioneers because I buy the old boxes that are just full of stuff. I like going through them and sometimes find something like this.

    Engraved on the front is "Constitution of the US". Someone put a little note on the back that reads "1790-1800 Brass Constitution of the US emblem of the top of a hat" Is 3 inches tall.

    I am not even sure that this is military but I though maybe I would start here. Apologies if not...if you could point me in the right direction. Is this a common insignia? Do you know its history?

    There it is. I saw other I remember seeing some ephemera in there for KOC as well. Would make sense. Thanks for help
