LARGE 33" x 15" GINGER JAR HAS ONLY CHINESE CHARACTERS MARK - OLD?

I found this today at a local thrift store - it is big & beautiful (especially for the price; $20!).
The bottom only has Chinese characters in a stamp - didn't they make a law in the 1920s or 1930s or something where all Chinese & Japanese imports had to have Made in China or Japan in english?
If so is this a old (mid century wise!) piece - or if they can copy Dior & such, did they just mar it this way to try to make it look old?
It does have a circular design on the inside that came from the way it was made on the potter's wheel (I think); most newer ones have smooth interiors, right?
But, I have to admit that that foo dog on top of the lid...with the eye lashes or something...does not make me think old or royalty - I laugh even now looking at it! What a face/look! lol

It is nice but recent.
When the base is as dirty as that, it has been smeared with dirt to make it look old. That happens a lot.

 

New decorator's piece, but $20 is a bargain.

 

The color combo makes me think 1980s,but Id have snagged it too for $20! Very pretty.

Hi jm. What a bargain for $20, even if it is fairly recent. You are right, you have to love the eyelashes. It looks like the Foo Dog went to a makeover class! Well bought.
