I know, the title doesn’t help much but I have absolutely no clue as to where to start with this wood sculpture. I do know that it was my great grandmothers and when my grandmother passed, I chose it cause it’s cool. It is hand carved with a man, a deer of sorts and what looks like a baby. There are metal looking decorative pieces throughout the whole thing. Please excuse the dust as that is another one of my problems. How would you go about cleaning it? Any info as to where to start would be awesome. Oh and there is no identifiable marking on it.
    Thanks

It is a little difficult to see the pictures, they are very small as thumbnails. Could you maybe try to post as full size?

Sure things. It said the duke was too large from my phone. Let’s see if this works. 19794730-CDC7-4621-8559-3B6ABF768588.jpeg 29B15B64-5492-4A65-8963-D86CD0CD1A6D.jpeg

Hi Gratia, welcome to Antiquers :joyful:
You have a nice Chinese statue of an Immortal (Any Jewelry will tell you his name and story ), made of iron wood inlaid with silver threads, as this one:

For the cleaning, a DRY paint brush and vacuum cleaner will do the job, DON'T wet him:nailbiting: or put oil which will stay in the crevices and maintain more dust!
A gentle rub with a cloth which has had some hard wax on it will restore shine on the surface:)

It is beautiful. It represents Shou, the Chinese Star God of longevity. The deer is said to be able to locate the herb of immortality.

Just a response here from a nonprofessional, but I would at least use a medium size soft bristle painters brush to dust the cracks and crevices on that.

Just want to second kyratango's and tie.dye.cat's advice on using a dry, soft brush to move the dust off. I find makeup brushes work really well, and are easily found at grocery stores. You can hold a vacuum nozzle nearby, and brush toward it. An untreated microfiber dust cloth also works well if there are no sharp edges on the inlay that might get snagged. Avoid any oils, as they may react adversely with the inlay metal.
    It is a nice piece.
