I have a vintage table fork with 'Palace Silver' stamped into the handle.

It doesn't seem to be plated metal, so I assume it is made of some alloy.

Does anybody know what the stamp means?

Thanks for that link to Walker & Hall.

I bought the fork at an antique shop on the way to Melbourne, and I see that Walker & Hall had a showroom in Melbourne.

I am curious what metals were used to make the 'Palace Silver' fork. I am pretty confidant that it is not EPNS. It is not so neutral white as EPNS, but has a very, very slight greenish colour.

Walker & Hall advertised electroplated, and nickel silver products. "Nickel silver" aka German silver commonly is composed of 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc. So, could it be straight (unplated) nickel silver as opposed to EPNS?

Thanks. I am sure you are correct.

I looked on Wiki and the synonyms are plentiful: "Nickel silver, Maillechort, German silver, Argentan, new silver, nickel brass, albata, alpacca . . ."

No silver content at all. So I wonder how Walker & Hall were able to get away with registering a trademark that implied silver - Palace Silver.
