Welcome, KikoBlueEyes. You don't say which country you are from in your profile, so for those of us in Australia, what is a Craftsman Bungalow? It's not a term used here but I'm sure it has an equivalent style. Thanks and enjoy the Forum. It's great.

AuDragon. Thanks for your welcoming words. A Craftsman Bungalow is from the Arts and Crafts period here in the US that existed between the late 1800's until about 1920. My house was built in 1911. I live in Southern California near the beach (Long Beach) and the bungalow variant I have is a wood sided, sloped roof, single story house with many windows. Many houses around here follow the same pattern of an open living room and dining room separated by a built-in bookcase and secretary, and a built-in china cabinet in the dining room. The two bedrooms are on either side of the bathroom and the kitchen is a galley kitchen with a mud room. Even though I live in an historic district, I have never researched anything about my house, though I have seen the same floor plan on many an old house tour. I've always wanted to visit Australia.

Thanks KBE for the infiormtion. We call that (post-Victorian) period Federation in Australia (1890-1915) as the separate colonies became the Federated Commonwealth of Australia on 1 July 1901. Your house sounds really lovely and that design must have inspired the 1920-1930's trend in Australia for Californian Bungalows (a bit behind you guys). Brick front, weatherboard sides, single storey and big open rooms. They are now very desirable homes, and like yours, some historic suburbs in Sydney are exclusively this style. I remember Long Beach, the Queen Mary and Knott's Berry Farm when I lived in America in my 20's.
    Enjoy the Forum.

AuDragon Thank you for the fascinating Australia history. I'm especially intrigued about why these houses would be called California Bungalows in Australia. I love that you lived here and that you might recognize the name Belmont Heights, where Craftsman Bungalows are concentrated. I hope you remember Long Beach fondly.
