Featured German? Cranberry Glass Tureen

Hello Everyone,

I have acquired this lovely tureen and am wondering what the country of origin is and possibly a value, there are no seems and I believe it is Victorian, any additional info would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome, Ksocha. From the word 'tureen', was expecting a big vessel for serving soup. First we need to find you a different description, maybe 'lidded jar'.

 

The lidded jar is beautiful ... Joy.

 

Nice looking piece - depending on the size, could be a biscuit jar or pickle castor

 

Hey - at least she spelt it correctly. That's one of eBay's worst! "Tureem, terrine, taurine...etc., etc.

I can see how you might not think it was a tureen from the pictures i posted, my apologies. In this picture here you will see a cut out that I believe would have been for a ladle. The item is approx 12 to 14" tall.

 

A perfect fit very nice.

 

More likely a wine/punch bowl, looks Bohemian/Czech...

Having myself made this inadvertent error with Fid just the other day, I can say, check the avatar.

 

That was my first thought, then wondered whether the shape really lends itself to that. Could work for pickles.

Yeah since its glass I suppose tureen makes little sense. More of a crock type. Wine\ punch makes more sense. I thought Bohemian for a second but wasn't sure.

 

Well, since we've all decided it's a nameless piece of drecK, I'll be happy to dispose of it for you.

 

should that be a Bohemian eagle ? looks rather like a Napoleonic one for Napoleon and Josephine

 

Typical of Bohemian enamelled cranberry glass, late 19th.

 

Thats were I am stuck, I believe the glass is bohemian it makes sense, but the eagle, not so much. Possibly a commissioned piece?
