    Hi All,
Wondering about this sterling butterfly brooch from Portugal - polish with a cream to get it sparkling or continue using a polishing cloth? I've been using a sunshine cloth, has removed a lot of the black but not sure if this should be polished with a cream polisher?
    Any thoughts appreciated
    thanks for looking:)

If it's for you it is purely personal preference. If you are selling it I find they always do a lot better if polished.

I would carefully clean it in warm water with dish detergent and a soft toothbrush then give it another cloth polish.

JMHO I don't think it should be polished to sparkling because you would lose a lot of the details of the design. However, I agree with @Ce BCA that it would likely sell better if it was a little cleaner. I agree with @Pattywithay. Try the soap & water to get some of the build-up off & then after it dries use the cloth some more.

The problem with cream is it is almost impossible with pieces like this to get it all out of the crooks & crevices.

I always give silver a light polish.

Polishing cream is a mess for pieces like this, I use a foaming polish like Hagerty Silver Foam or Wright's Silver Cream with a soft toothbrush. They are meant to be used with water and wash away easily :)

I use the foaming polish and a baby toothbrush.
It’s brilliant as it just washes away. I then use a little fairy liquid (dawn) again on a toothbrush, rinse and a polish with a silver cloth.

This is one of those VERY rare cases where I've used Silver Dip. Literally in and out.

Whatever you do, don't use Tarnex, it's the work of the devil.
