Newbie signing in......

Hello Folks,

A newbie just signing in.........

My name is Russ, and I am particularly fascinated by antique arms & armour, edged weapons and militaria.
I collect Edged weapons, and have done for over fifty years. I am especially interested bayonets, and particularly in socket bayonets, which I have been collecting for the last ten or eleven years or so. Japanese weapons and armour are also another area of great interest to me, though I no longer collect them.
I am a professional metalworker and get great satisfaction in restoring antiques and weapons.
Hopefully, I may be able to contribute something useful at some point, until then I am just happy to read and learn.......

If you like blades we will have to share notes! I, like all of us started collecting anything sharp, that was when I was six years old. Later on bayonets took my fancy and I built up a quite good collection as a teenager. I was, and still am, also interested in Third Reich edged weapons, though I no longer collect them. Then I started collection what is perhaps my true love, Japanese edged weapons and built up a quite good collection of them. then gradually as things altered, I sold the collections, and only started collecting again about ten or eleven years ago. I now collect socket bayonets, but can see a few swords coming in my direction soon too!

Yup...my collecting has gone thru changes as well.
Mostly pen and pocket knives.....I like the small carry......but there are vex-ceptions.....where I'm sitting I have 6 different blades in arms reach....one...a bayonet..!!!
I once had an older wakizashi blade in it's wooden waiting scabbard, in my hands,,,.....( could have been a Katana...) I was younger...., but my pal would not sell it to me !

& like you , I bought my first blade at Upper Canada Village....when I was... 7..or..8...
