Does anyone know what this is called. How much might it be worth? I am pretty sure it is Japanese, but that is all I know.
I wonder if it is a 'hanpi', formerly part of court dress, but now used in bugaku performances. Bugaku is a traditional Japanese dance. Court hanpi were dark, but bugaku hanpi are colourful. https://www.japanese-wiki-corpus.org/culture/Hanpi (sleeveless body wear).html Scroll down to 'Bukan sokutai', it is about he different layers of court dress, including the hanpi: https://sengokudaimyo.com/garb/mens-outfits
Thank you so much everyone! I forgot to mention it came with a matching clutch. I think it is a women’s garment.
I think it might be a cape! but I can’t find anything similar to it. How old do you think it might be. I was guessing 60’s, but I could be way off. I know nothing about this.
The clutch is likely to give a better indication of age. I suggest you post a photograph of it. And give us more information about the garment. Does it have shoulder pads? Does it have a closure? Is that a tie seen on one side? And if so does it wrap or just hang? Debora
What is the length? Are those slits for the arms to go through? Would anyone be willing to model it.....the person's head doesn't have to show!! Just so we get a good idea of maybe an average 5'5" or 5'6" person wearing it????? And showing the clutch with is a GREAT idea!!! It's VERY PRETTY!!!
Had no idea what to do with the tie. There are no shoulder pads and the model is 5’4 130lbs. Height is in feet and inches.
