    IMG_4010.JPG Hello,

I'm new to the forum and to antiquing in general. I'm sorry if it's bad form to ask advice right away. However, I've removed this chandelier from my dining room and don't want to just dispose of it if it is something a collector/enthusiast would be interested in. I'm sure it's not a true antique, but it could be an interesting piece nonetheless. I'm sorry for the terrible lighting. It was a bad time of day for a phone photo. If you need more details or a better picture, I'm sure I can manage.

On a side note, I've recently become enamored with antique shopping with my husband and sister. I've been browsing the forum and hope to learn something while I'm here. My favorite find so far is an authentic porthole window from Maine.

Welcome again, Shel! Not sure how popular this style is now, but if it's in good cosmetic and working condition I'm sure someone up there in New England would give it a good home. More pictures in good light would be helpful, but it's dark there now, so maybe tomorrow? You might also look it over for any markings on the hardware to determine maker. A maker with a good reputation will also help sell it.

And by the way - are those 12 over 12 windows? :)

    Welcome

Do a google search on Delft chandelier. I would not throw in a dumpster. Someone would probably want it if it works in their decor. Not worth a lot of $$$

They are 12 over 12! I believe they're American Pine. Sadly, they're also a real drag on the heat bill, so they're not long for this world.

I did look for markings, but only found a Union Made sticker. That seemed irrelevant.

I did see some "Delft" chandelier listings, but I wasn't sure if it was a style, a maker, etc. I certainly won't throw it in the dumpster if it's something someone would want for their home. It works just fine. It needs to be cleaned, but I don't want to clean it inexpertly and damage the metal. I'll leave it to the new owner to get it up to snuff.

So how old is the house? ;) I lived in Newburyport back in the 70's. One house a Greek Revival and the other pre-Revolutionary War, but added to on at least 2 occasions that we could tell.

It's actually less than 70 years old, so much younger than the house I grew up in (that was pre-Civil War). However, the woman who built it clearly loved some older styles. It has a Dutch colonial look, four large fireplaces, wide pine floors, exposed beams, etc. It's eclectic, but I like it for all its strange out of time-ness.

A wee bit is an understatement. Leave it to me to forget you can edit photos. Haha, thank you very much.

Welcome! The chandelier, btw, looks like it's straight out of the 1970s-1980s. It's not horribly old, but it's not junk either.

Are you considering putting storms over your 12/12 windows or replacing them with the same? In early times 12/12 were a sign of wealth. We worked hard to conserve the integrity of the old homes we lived in.

A local consignment shop would probably be the easiest way to sell this piece. Shipping costs would keep the price way down in an on-line venue & unless you have the right people at an auction it would most likely sell for very little.

We considered it, but they're not the higher quality windows you would have seen a century ago. These are American Pine, which look nice but aren't sturdy enough to repair. We could have gone with grid windows, but only did so with our living room bay and picture windows. My husband prefers the more modern windows for various reasons.

I figured it wasn't worth much, but if it's worth something to someone, I'd gladly bring it to a consignment shop.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I like it -- it would have to go with somebody's decor, which has been mentioned before. Good luck with it!
