I can not make head nor tail of the marks on this pot.
    It's a small thing - 2.5" diameter x 2.75" high (including the ram.).

A ram, perhaps a big horned sheep.

i believe those marks are Thai, there should be an impressed D with a two digit number that indicated the date of production. i can't find my notes... but from what I remember production before the 1980 is collectible which is when kiln firing used wood not gas. The dates though are not the same as USA. ie D 35 means something like 1980. The D number coincides somehow with their longest reigning king (current).

    Thank you trip!
I will check it over again, and try to get a better photo.
I never would have guessed Thai - not in a million years! :)

I turned my laptop upside down and found what looks like an open D 53 on your piece. i will try and dig up my notes. So you can date it. I looked in my Asian folder and found a copy of your mark without the notes. lol

It looks like the kind of pot that might be used to hold ink for a chop.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I like that you turned your laptop upside down rather than flipping the image!

I did show a photo of the mark both ways though.
Should the mark be up & down, rather than side to side?
I have tried, but haven't been able to get a better shot of it. :(

Well, flipping a laptop and holding it would be a good arm exercise. :)

Better late than never, found my notes while looking for something else.
Maker: Mengrai Kilns,Thailand, King took throne in 1945 add the number after the "d" to 1945 for the date of production. The d number represents the number of years of current kings reign when the item was made. So your piece dates 1998.
