Featured Antique Chatelaine Fob

Been after one of these for years, but they cost a small fortune on eBay...which is saying a lot, because they're not even gold.

This is my gold-filled gent's chatelaine fob. Been chasing one for ages so I could wear it with my pocketwatch

 

Wonderful piece. Looks sensational on you. I had a pocket watch once (it was stolen). My favorite part was a fob attached to the chain. Not a chatelaine though, just a gem stone in a surround.

 

I'd seen these things for years, but I didn't know what they were called until I found them on the website of a local antiques shop.

I did not realise that male chatelaines were a thing! But apparently, they are!

Anyway, I was like: "Hell, I want one!"

The only place selling them locally wanted CRAZY STUPID MONEY for them. $1,000 each!!

I spent weeks searching online, trying various combinations of words on eBay until I found the best matches and eventually bought this one. I liked the three-chain-mesh design with the bars across the top and bottom.

There's even some sort of weird squiggle thing on the seal-fob at the bottom. I can't tell if it's just decorative, or if it's some guy's initials.

 

A seal fob implies initials, doesn't it?

 

It SHOULD, but I can't figure out what (if anything) they are.

Mirror the image,the letters are backwards.Or melt some wax and use the seal.

 

I've tried that already. Still can't figure it out.

That's what I see too. And I agree, not a seal, just the guy's initials as a sign of ownership. Or to check if he doesn't remember his name after a pub crawl.

 

C B J - great piece! I have one! Mine is just plated though...but the design is very similar!

 

I think the majority of them WERE plated. I've never seen one that was gold.

 

Looks great. Wish I had known you were looking for one. My late father was a collector of pocket watches and chains which I now have. I sold one not quite as nice but similar in my Etsy shop for $42. Guess I should raise my prices!
