You're forgetting the healing power and wisdom that is bestowed on anyone who takes it home and loves it.

It's a fairly recent (last 10-15 years or so) import from Mexico, made for the decorator trade. Rather hastily thrown, trimmed, and decorated on a potter's wheel (the incised lines often overlap, and the paint isn't applied within the outlined shapes), the pottery was sold through Pier 1 and similar outlets. It is "artificially aged" to appear old, but isn't.

Finding "faces" and other forms in our surroundings seems to be a special talent, some people have it, some don't. I'm hooked on seeing bird and animal forms in clouds. And faces on the textured bathroom wall. It's a rather harmless pastime, but not one to take too seriously.

As to the bottom of your pot, I see a reclining dog, not a face. Although there is something of a Easter Island moai nose poking up out of the sand....

Pier 1 is a chain of stores in the U.S. that sells imported items for decorating your home. All modern objects, made to look interestingly foreign and sometimes artificially aged.
