You just never know what's going to happen to photos you put out there!

I have a particularly lovely set of photos that have lingered unclaimed -- even though I have contacted family and know other family members have downloaded digital copies.

Then I was contacted -- not by a family member, but by the current resident of the old family home. They would like to donate the physical photos to the local historical society. Perfect! Much better than wasting away in my filing cabinet.

I also had another collection of photos go to a library in the small town where the photographer was located.

And anyone who does up in the sale pile? Well, they're just paying the way for more people who will be successfully reunited. :cat:

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I have occasionally donated old photos to the historical societies in the areas where the photos were taken. I always inquire first to see if they want them. Started doing that after once sending several to one place and the historical society sent all but one back to me, saying they didn't want them! Apparently they were looking for representative photos from local photographers and they already had photos taken by most of the photographers who had taken the photos I sent.

It's funny, you just never know who is going to want what. This set that is going to a historical society? Bee-yoo-tiful pictures of a very prominent/wealthy family with lots of descendants... I thought a family member, even a distant family member, would snap them up, but nada.

OTOH, I once had some faded/damaged photos that were barely there and with those I had two family members that wanted them almost immediately. I sent the photos to the only one of the two who was willing to reimburse my costs plus shipping (about $7).

The other one publicly (on a genealogy message board) proclaimed me a scam artist! :hilarious:

Do you think the photographer painted gloves on him?

Maybe he just has his fingers bent and it only looks as if he’s holding something. Maybe?

I think the last two sections of the pinkie finger on that hand have been lost somewhere along his working life - see how much wider it looks than the others? For that matter, he may have other shortened fingers, thus causing him to hold his hands that way.

To me it definitely looks like he's holding some sort of a small knitted or knotted 'ditty' bag....pinky definitely looks like it was broken at some point.......I don't see indication of it being painted tho......

Yeah, I'm still thinking someone painted his hands, but can think of no good reason why true or false it would matter. :hilarious:

No, I think he has swelling in his hands due to some sort of illness. Arthritis, TB, inflammation of some sort. Look at his little finger. There is a ring on it that he can't get off without cutting the ring.
Looking at both hands, I think he just has his fingers curled up. I doubt he has lost his fingers. I don't see any scarring.

As to what he is holding. I don't think he is holding anything. I think that is a piece of fabric over the chair arm.

Well, whether he moves on to family or friends, Mr. Henry/Heney/Hewey/Hemey has proven an interesting guy and I can't ask any more from my house guests!
