Mystery Antique Jewellery box

Hello.
I have inherited my grandfather's jewellery box that he returned from Italy with after WWII. Unfortunately he passed away and the history behind it is unknown. Is anyone about to tell me more about it?

It's a metal box ( unsure what metal )
It's 15.5 cm x 19.5 cm x 6cm

Has a Pewter look to it, but that's just MY guess.....

The scene is very strange. Could be from a literary source such as Orlando Furioso. Or could be artist's creation. The chariot looks Imperial Roman while the buildings are much newer. There may be a painting to go with this.

 

I suspect it's meant to be Ben Hur.

 

Pompeii street scene. No details but likely Ettore Forti as he painted a number of similars.
