Native American handmade heart pin with baby in papoose

I bought this about a week ago, still can't find anything on it. came from old house where I bought lot's of old stuff for dirt cheap. Anyone know anything about this type of pin or whatever it's called ?

A trinket made for tourists. Not a traditional item, so difficult to attribute to any particular group, but typical of pieces made by some of the northern tribes around the Great Lakes and New York. It looks like it is done on native tanned (brain tanned) leather, which has a sort of felted appearance on both sides. Similar to this:
