Vesuvianite or green tourmaline?

It looks like peridot to me, but it could be vesuvianite. It is about the same on the Mohs scale, 6.5-7.

If the ring is sterling,most likely a stone that size would be a CZ.

 

I didn't know the term vesuvianite, but see it is the same as idocrase, a lovely stone. Olivine, parent of peridot, is another possibility. However, the rounded edges where one facet meets another make me think glass. CZ would have sharper edges & a lot of flash.

 

I thought about that, but I've seen stones cut that way as well.

I have a sterling ring with a big peridot. It says Bvlgari on the sides, but I have my doubts. I liked the stone though, and it tested as peridot. I haven't looked at it it in years, must get it out again.

 

After enlarging the photo,looks like an air bubble near the upper right prong.

 

Ah, that would be glass then.

 

Figured as much; it looks like glass from here too.
