Magnificent Bronze But Not Sure if Real

    I have this beautiful art deco period bronze but not sure if it a genuine Johann Philipp Ferdinand Preiss. Base has what look like modern bolts.

    Id guess thats an 80s version of an art deco bronze. It is lovely.

    It's very odd: lots of images of work by Preiss, whose era was Art Deco, but none like this. She should be easy to find, yet searches for f preiss + woman and fan, fan dancer, flamenco dancer, turned up nothing. Much, if not all, of his original work was done in a combination of bronze & ivory. Without proof to the contrary, would have to think this is an all bronze repro, but...?

    Agree that modern. Art deco inspired perhaps.

    Applied 'patina' is almost always a sign of cheap crap

    Welcome to Antiquers, Robert.

    It is a lovely bronze, but it doesn't strike me as being by Preiss, or even of the period.
    Ferdinand Preiss trained as an ivory carver, and usually combined ivory with (gilded) bronze. I have never seen Preiss bronzes that were partly patinated.
    Ivory carving was a specialty of his hometown of Erbach, and he employed several ivory carvers in his workshop. His works were of a very high quality:

    JMHO.
    round base, artificial patina and signature by electric engraver give it away as a shot to make a fast dollar with a 60s statue.
    the round base is 1950s and later. Preiss worked in chryselephantine mostly.
    P.S.: I just went through the wonderful book edited by the museum Casa Lis in Salamanca and found no similar figure.
