I found this at a thrift store last week & immediately thought of Bottero (especially from the back!). But it's signed on the bottom Alvaro Castagnet F. - Columbia; and going to his website I only found paintings for sale?
I did find a reference to a pottery bus made by him but it was so long ago there were no photos of it on ebay where it was originally listed,
Is this by a different Alvaro Castagnet?
Is this piece valuable at all?
Any information would be greatly appreciated; it wasn't expensive to buy but to me it looks/seems like a good piece (maybe because it reminded me of Boterro).
    Thank you!

It certainly appears to be inspired by a Botero Matador. Ah... I see the confusion. Your piece isn't signed Alvaro Castagnet, which is an unusual surname and belongs to a Uruguayan artist living in Australia. It's signed Alvaro Castañeda F. out of Colombia. There are other pieces of his floating around the internet. And may be this guy.

@journeymagazine, what's the size of your 'matador'?? I see he's in front of something Cuisinart, but can't figure out what that is!!!

This may be the inspiration. Botero did make sculptures as well but the Matador ones floating around the internet, while associated with Botero, used this painting as their source and were produced by others.

Hard to believe with talent like his that he & his wife are janitors - and it looks like the company they work for did a bigger/better bio on him than any art info site?

Here's his work in a family's nativity museum. Note the artist is/was based in Bogotá.
