Hello there, quite a long time ago I was given a silver or at least silver-plated cigarette box by my grandmother, who did not want it anymore. I've now become rather curious as to how old it is, where it came from, and basically anything about it. I do apologise for my lack in knowledge in antiques, and here are some photos of the box. Again, I do apologise if they're not of the best quality. Also, I should note that there are no hallmarks of any type on the box, hence why I have resorted to this forum for answers.

    Much appreciated,

    Welcome to the forum, Echo.
Are you sure it is a cigarette case? It seems to be lined with velvet, which would make it a jewellery box.

I took the liberty of editing your photos a bit:

I've seen these used as table cigarette cases but they are usually lined with a thin strip of wood.
If silver plate then anywhere between the early 1950's to the early 70's.

Those textured bottoms are usually indicative of Japanese origin silverplate.

That was going to be my comment as well.
I also think trinket/jewel box, not cigarette.

That's a third vote for Japanese silverplate from me. The Taiwanese did these boxes a bit later, but they're generally stamped right into the box. Oh yeah, welcome!

I thank you all very much for your responses, and I will do my best to reply with any relevant information.

I am fairly certain it is indeed a cigarette case, although I may be incorrect, given that the interior of the box is actually lined with a thin layer of wood, rather than velvet. I do apologise for the bad quality images, which most likely explains why it looked like velvet. Also, thank you very much for your kind welcome.

Thank you all very much for your kind welcomes, as well as this information. I think it's fairly safe to say that it is most likely of Japanese origin :)

The dimensions of the box are approximately 11cm long, 9cm wide, and 4cm high.

Thank you all very much for your help :):)

Bingo. Cigarette box. The wood lining and the size make me certain. It's the right size for filtered cigarettes.
