Found this for $3.99 and I didn't recognize the silver marks. Turns out they are Egyptian! The fineness marks shows it is 900 silver, lotus flower is 1946-present. However the only thing I am stumped on is the date mark? Which year is it? I can't see a similar one on the list? Any help? As for the plate it weighs 312 grams and looks to be done by hand! Very nice piece and I look forward to polishing it up!

That date mark is a mystery I have been unable to solve. I have seen it many times, perhaps more common than any other. The chart above was from the official government site. As you can see, although this was the version still posted up to a handful of years ago, it was not changed after 2009, & in the last couple of time periods they show the same letter. I don't know whether the mark on your plate indicates it was marked after about 2011 or so, or is a simplified version of a letter like the one for 1968-1975. Would love it if someone with the inside scoop on Egyptian assay marks were to come along & sort this out.

You did well for $3.99, but I have to agree with komo. It looks like an apprentice piece, but maybe brass or copper would have been a better medium for a budding metalworker.

I have the same marks problem as Bronwen, this particular year mark is seen a lot, but it is a mystery to me.

Old post, but my grandfather being an UN soldier after the war brought one home from Egypt in the 1950's. A souvenir of the time.
