    Hi,

I recently picked this up in a charity shop because I thought the engraving was lovely. It
says "Saumur" at the top. Approximately 22cm in diameter.

It almost has the look of a church collection plate, but I'm really not confident. Can anyone help?

Thanks for the quick response! :)

It presumably is from there, but I'm curious if it can be narrowed down a bit - perhaps its rough age, or what its purpose was?

What is it made of? I can't tell from the picture if it's old brown copper or wood.

The purpose of this sort of think is often purely decorative. Might also be used as a bread plate.

    It's made entirely of wood.

Does it have a hook on the back for hanging? I ask because sometimes they're useful for dating.

Actually, yes - there's a hole in the middle of the back!

Maybe it was a flue cover .

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

You know I only try to enhance what I see....another tough one...just wasn't sure that was an "S"....and am STILL not!!!!:joyful::joyful::rolleyes::rolleyes: BUT then again, if that's what the Scene shows, then that's what it is!!! Some VERY faint printing off to the right.....but also illegible.......
