Can anyone help identify this old plate?

Hi,

I recently picked this up in a charity shop because I thought the engraving was lovely. It
says "Saumur" at the top. Approximately 22cm in diameter.

It almost has the look of a church collection plate, but I'm really not confident. Can anyone help?

It presumably is from there, but I'm curious if it can be narrowed down a bit - perhaps its rough age, or what its purpose was?

 

What is it made of? I can't tell from the picture if it's old brown copper or wood.

 

The purpose of this sort of think is often purely decorative. Might also be used as a bread plate.

 

It's made entirely of wood.

 

Does it have a hook on the back for hanging? I ask because sometimes they're useful for dating.

Actually, yes - there's a hole in the middle of the back!

 

Maybe it was a flue cover .

 

You know I only try to enhance what I see....another tough one...just wasn't sure that was an "S"....and am STILL not!!!! BUT then again, if that's what the Scene shows, then that's what it is!!! Some VERY faint printing off to the right.....but also illegible.......
