To restore or not.

    I’ve been given an old upholsters wooden toolbox approx 20” x 12” x 10” with an inner tray.
    The outside is crusted with all sorts of gunk etc, the interior is fine with old pictures of upholstery.
    Do I
    Leave as is.
    Clean it up without sanding.
    Sand it down to bare wood and stain or wax it.
    Which option would make it more valuable please?

    Thirded. We need something to work from. Usually with something like that I just clean off the dirt and let the buyer deal with it.

    This treatment would destroy any potential historic or antique value it may have.

    As others have said, photos would really help us to give better advice.
