Hi all, my wife found this while hiking in Colorado. Wondering if anyone can help identify what type of dagger it is, when it might have been crafted, etc.

There is some sort of writing on the blade, but it's very hard to make out what it says. Blade is about 5" long.

    Thanks!
    Mike

What is the spot on the handle? Is the handle aluminum? Looks like a hand made "boot"knife, maybe from someone's back yard forge.

Not sure. Tomorrow I'll ask her what she thinks the handle is made of and what the spot on the handle is. Thanks!

Wonder if the lettering on the blade actually says "MEXICO". It's hard to tell but certainly possible. Thanks!

Sorry about that komokwa, honest mistake. I thought you were pointing to the place of origin in your reply. Didn't realize you were saying Mexico in relation to the writing on the blade specifically. Thanks for the info!
