Carved wood praying figure unusual curvy style from wood

I found this last week at a local thrift store; I thought it was a hindu(?) India (?) figure praying but I can't remember any hindu men wearing a loin cloth like this - and when I googled Do hindu men wear loin cloths? It only showed pics of men with the cotton pants & long cotton shirts; so any idea where this is from? It has what looks like AL or the initials A I so maybe I can find out who the artist is if well known if I can tell where it's from.
Also I love the curving form; it's what first caught my eye - what would I call this style (my first thought was surreal - so I know I need help because I'm sure that's not right!)
It has a small rectangular piece of wood on the top of the head that's lighter in color - was this a repair?
Finally, he has ridges running down his back! Is this from the wood or is it something the artist added? And if so what does it mean?
Any thoughts on this carving would be greatly appreciated (is it a tourist piece? Is it well done?)

He is beautiful, journey. Yes, he is a fairly recent version of the 'ribbon boy'.
Those very smoothly stylised eye and eyebrow sections were a feature of plump carvings by a 1960s artist, but your thin praying ascetic is not by him, so I won't mention the name. But his style is still copied to this day, and apparently your carver was inspired by it when he carved that lovely stylised face.

The AL on the back are just a coincidence. They are part of the wood, just like the spots to the left, and along his back. You can see the dark areas around all of the spots, including the AL. It looks like the tree suffered some kind of fungal infection or disease. The wood is OK now, no need to worry. To Balinese, Madurese and Javanese carvers wood like that is special, and it is often used for kerises.
Balinese carvers rarely sign their work, but if they do, they sign on the base.

Photo below, the hilt and 'ship' of this Madurese keris are made of special 'timoho pelet' wood. 'Pelet' is the name given to these marks, left by a fungal infection in the rare timoho tree.
Every pattern has a specific meaning. The band across this hilt means the keris belonged to someone with a legal profession. This one isn't mine, but I have a similar one, which I got from a Dutch-Madurese lawyer.
