Small Wooden box - can any one say what this is

At first I thought this was a pencil box but I looked on line and could not find anything else with the same characteristics. Does anyone have any ideas what it is?

 

Cheri, I believe this is a box from India for storing (and using) stick incense. Is there a slanted hole in the top that could hold a single stick of incense while it burns?

I'm surprised they still make them. usually now is those cone holders that the smoke flows down like a waterfall.



These waterfall incense burners are so cool - don't know how they work but they do..............

 

Thanks for all the info. You are right - it may not be vintage. I bought this and a pencil box at the same time. The pencil box had dovetail joints so I figured it was a little older. This did not. In looking at the article from the link you sent it looks like it may have been made in India - as the site has you order them from India.

 

Definitely from India.
