I visited an auction house at the weekend and saw this mixed lot of five boxes. See anything interesting?

It depends on who's looking. Nothing for me, but there's some 19th century porcelain in there - German or Czech I think. That green phone might get someone's juices flowing too.

Ouch. The red ones bring the real money.

It's the weird stuff that brings the money these days. All of the old collectibles aren't any more.

I wasn't joking but I'm glad I posted this. Will fish out of the bin in the morning.

All I'm seeing is a pewter coffee pot missing its finial and a porcelain handle attached to what looks like a gravy boat.

Most is now at the charity shop but the arrowed piece is an amazing one.

Spot on with a gravy boat. (sauce boat to be exact)

It must be some sauce boat! Around here we can't give most porcelain away unless it's Meissen or something.

John definitely had the advantage over us, Ruth. He saw the lot in person.

Yes I did have that advantage and for once it went unspotted by anyone else.

Some house clearance auctioneers are not porcelain specialists. It happens three or four times a year. Lay it out it in a mixed lot on a table and it would be picked up by two or three regulars.
