I would like to find out if the capodimonte I have is a fake/copy, And which features would allow me to identify it...

    Hi Doogal!

    Welcome to Antiquers...........:cat:

We will need photos of the entire piece, including the bottom.

Perhaps you are having a problem doing that.

If you are taking them with your phone, email them to yourself choosing medium.

Giuseppe Armani designed a ton of these figurines some more valuable than others. The blue N with a crown indicates Capodimonte. There is usually a script G Armani somewhere on the piece as well. In the example from Ebay below, the marks are in the back.

I have a number of Guiseppe Armani's. I have never seen one turned into a night light.

Since the picture of the underside of the base gives a date in 2020, you do not have a true Capodimonte piece (the factory closed in the 1700s.) There are however a number of companies who have used the name for "collectible" pieces in a style similar to the true ones and they do have a following. But if what you expected was a true antique, that is not what you have.

Its the pat test sticker for the date of electrical testing it has nothing to do with the figure as it's a lamp it has to have one if it's in a home or shop etc..

The N and signature do not change my thinking. That N is frequently seen on the new items. Sorry. If you had a 300 year old piece would it make sense to convert it to lamp? You would ruin the value.

Oh I didnt think I had a 300 year old piece and I'm aware that replicas of such items are made. My girlfriend bought it and I just wanted to speak to individuals who have more knowledge. I was quite aware that the fact it has a lamp suggests it's not worth anything but this seemed like a useful fact finding mission .... And with G Armani being born in 1935 it never entered my mind that it was an aged item...

I actually just took in a collection of Armani sculptures for our next auction - they are pretty palatial (Ebony & Ivory, Proud & Beautiful, etc). Also three Armani table lamps with shades. They had about 6 of the smaller lamps like the one pictured but the value was below our threshold to accept.

Interesting. I have seen Armani table lamps, just not this type of nightlight. I thought it might be a retrofit job, albeit, professionally wired.

I don't think my client's mother retrofitted the sculptures but perhaps someone did on the marketplace other then Armani?

I would lean toward Armani ear-marking some smaller figurines for this market. Especially ones like this that are more pale in color. Guessing here.
