Yes, it's from Ratsy Brown's image......I was trying (unsuccessfully so!) to clarify it a bit!!

All the pieces of Tiffany silver I've ever owned were clearly stamped with "TIFFANY & CO" or something similar.

This stuff screams fake to me. Tiffany would never have permitted such shoddy workmanship done to its own manufacturing marks.

I mean, it MAY be real silver, but real Tiffany? I'd run a thousand miles.

That may be so - but half-marked pieces like this? I still say phoney.

Here are some more pieces by Janna Thomas de Velarde - some of these are marked "Tiffany&Co".

Edit: And here some other pieces signed by the same silversmith.

I can’t authenticate them but I would personally buy them as authentic. Tiffany manufactured in Mexico, Spain, Italy etc. Those are vintage and stamping was not consistent until later. Agree to go to Tiffany and leave them for polishing. They won’t polish if not authentic. They won’t authenticate on the spot.

Ooh interesting. I am still wondering why it's only half a mark, though.

It’s vintage outsourced product. Stamping was not consistent.

Sorry i don’t follow you. I’m looking at the OP’s original post and the baskets look fine to me. Again, they appear to be outsourced vintage product.

If the OP's basket were outsourced to an authorized maker,it would have a stamped Tiffany maker's mark. The OP's basket does not have a stamped maker's mark.

Respectfully I’m not sure that would have been true when those baskets were made. Licensed product was pretty loosely controlled, even by Tiffany. Gucci is a perfect example. There are upteen different stamps and fonts on legit vintage licensed product. Again, I absolutely cannot authenticate those pieces but I would personally buy them as authentic.

This whole conversation is moot IMO as the OP can easily take or send the pieces to Tiffany for polishing. Although some SA might give an opinion I know from my own secondary market Tiffany pieces that the company policy is not to authenticate on the spot. I just had a bracelet worked on. They take the piece in and will then confirm by email whether the piece can be worked on or not and the price. I don’t know that a counterfeit piece has never been confiscated but my bet is that they’ll just return it.

Yes, as previously noted, T&C did have pieces produced in Mexico. Mexico can be "dodgy" so the first question I would want answered is are they sterling. If no, you have your answer. If yes, then the next question would be the T&C question.

If it were me, looking at it to purchase, my first thoughts would be, the mark is not right unless I am missing the Co in the metal. The artist did not sign their work. The work is missing the appropriate Mexico marking for sterling pieces I would expect to see - I unfortunately own a lot of Mexico sterling - I love it more than the market does....lol. If they are from the 60's they should have an eagle stamp and frankly, if made for T&C, I go back to the fact I would expect it to have been made by a special artisan and I would expect that the artist would sign the piece with their own mark, as I have seen before on other pieces.

While there is a ton of history missing for Mexican sterling, about the most complete book is the little book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks by Bille Hougart.

As of now, I believe they are not genuine pieces.
