I'm quietly confident with the dating of 1920-1940. The framers name on the back, C. Soar & Sons based at 4 Launceston Place in Kensington didn't operate at that address til 1920 according to the National Art Gallery.

I can't even begin to guess the name other than L. M. Ide or Lde . All I'm sure of is the M  .

Is this kind of damage always liquid based too?

Struggling to find any databases on century old jockeys anyway haha. So close when it's staring us right in the face

That's very possible! Jockeys are often depicted upon their horse in the engraving I did find

Contact Dick Francis's son, Felix. He may know, or he may know how to find out. :)

I'm definitely further away than where I started haha. It may be that he wasn't even the most famous figure in his sport of his day, its certainly be difficult then.

Jivvy the research is my favorite

Have you thought about opening it to see if there is anything is written on the back? Unlikely (people are terrible about labeling pictures of people they know), but might be worth a shot.
