    Hello e1,

I hope you enjoyed your long weekend. It’s been chaotic over here but I am on this side of the dirt still. Ty Jesus!

I need help with the era and a few other things. The trombone and all the marks makes me think European it looks 50’s to me but I am still learning a to tell the age.

I cannot make out any of the marks whatsoever. I’m hoping that the possible shapes and the eagle-eyes we have on this page might recognize something.

I cannot remember if it tested for 14 or 18k but my memory makes me think it was 18k. The emerald are really nice. The light washes out the opal but it’s decent in person.

    help!!

Very nice, gauntlett. Age-wise it looks 1960s to me.
Unfortunately the marks are blobs, but I think I recognize an Austrian import mark.
However, the mark is for mixed precious metals, could that be the case? Is there any platinum on the brooch? I don't see any.

I could have the wrong mark entirely, I'll take a photo of the one in one of my books so you can see for yourself.

I mean this mark on your brooch:

Below is the Austrian import mark for platinum with other precious metals, but I could be clutching at straws here, since I don't see any platinum on you brooch.:(

Were trombone-style catches still being used in the 1960s? (Just trying to learn here...)

Agree, still used later. I had an 18K brooch with a dedication date etched in '84 and it had a trombone clasp exactly like this.

@gauntlettgems I would definitely test again to see if 14K or 18K. I agree 1960s or possibly even a decade later.

Ok, I tested it again and it is 14k. Don’t know why I was remembering 18k. I would have never expected this was possibly from Israel! The marks are so hard to make out! Thank you so much
