I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on the signature on this painting. It looks like A. Thies to me. It's 27" x 11" and I acquired it at a barn sale a few years ago in southwest Ohio, so I have no idea of the history. Thanks for any help! That's what the signature looks like to me. Without the line across the A.

Didn't notice the lack of the cross line. There are lots of artists names Thies, though. Unfortunately it might be a Sunday painter.

I think you're probably right. From what I was able to find, nothing matched up stylistically with any artist with the same last name but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing anything.

Are you sure it's not an enhanced print?

I don't think so but honestly I don't know. How would I be able to tell? Sorry for my lack of knowledge but I'm just learning.

Dabbing it with water would probably tell you but... I don't suggest it! I asked because the brush strokes don't seem to correspond with the image beneath. Here, for instance. Let's see what others think.

I took the cardboard off the back. I don't know if that helps any. Screenshot_20210909-214719_Gallery.jpg

Thies is a Dutch surname, but I can't find a Dutch painter named A. Thies.

According to familysearch.org, lots of Thies in Ohio so could be right.

Can you see what the sides of that canvas look like? Sometimes that will tell you if it is an enhanced print. I have seen some that were unprofessionally restored with varnish to prevent further loss and the brushstrokes can appear mechanical almost. Probably reach with that but......

I'm not home right now but I'll check it out when I get back in a few hours.

@laura9797 This is a photo of the sides of the canvas. All I see is paint. 20210910_134712.jpg
