Need opinion on Valton Bronze or spelter?

Hi, I am new to the forum, and need help in identifying this piece:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/173636325172

It has been unlisted, because there is silver showing in scratches on the underside, and the base appears to be hollow spelter. Any opinions would be appreciated. The weight and dimensions in the listing are correct. If it is spelter, what would be a fair price? Thank you in advance for any help.

The dog figurine or the French trinket box?

    The 2 dog figurine
It weighs 12 pounds, and is 11 inches tall, 14 inches long, and 6 inches wide. Valton's name is on the front, and there is a Paris foundry mark on the back.

very typical French régule. mostly an alloy of tin or lead and antimony. sometimes bronzed as here. especially after WWI everything that was found on the battlegrounds was melted together and nobody exactly knew what went in it, so once broken it's irrepairable.
price depends on where you are.

Nothing is irrepairable as long as there’s Bondo!

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

There seems to be a lot of writing along the "stone" the dogs are standing on, but other than C. VALTON ?, not much else seems legible....at least to me....!!!! Does it also say "The MET" just above the -TON- section????? REALLY not sure!!!!

Hi, thank you for all the responses, they have been very helpful.

As for the possible writing above C. Valton, I examined the area under magnification, and what appears to be writing is just an artifact of the digital photo. You got me a little excited, thank you.

So it is spelter, or regule, with light wear on the base. On close examination, there are no cracks, dents, or chips on the dogs, but there is light wear on the base in the form of very small, light scratches (mainly on the underside) where the silver color shows through. So, I will write up an accurate description and price it out accordingly, then relist. Thanks to all!
