Hello, I inherited this piece of antique oak furniture. It is signed has carved footings and has dovetail joints on the drawer.

Does anyone recognized the signed name which I think says “C” or “L” M. Kelly?

I live in California but my this was from my mother-in-law who was original from St. Louis, MO.

I have no idea of the value of this piece. Any suggestions are welcome

Did you forget to post your photographs? If you need help in doing so, someone will be along shortly with instructions, I'm sure.

With the lower shelf I believe I'd call it a library table. While waiting for those really knowledgeable furniture folks to weigh in I'll just ask. Are there any other maker markings anywhere underneath, elsewhere on the drawer etc?

I'm not really sure what that signature says..........but it's larger & enhanced a bit...

That may not be the maker's signature; it could also have been somebody's kid. Usually a maker's signature is on the underside or inside.

Library table. Maybe 1930’s- 1950’s or so (not sure) I don’t know to me it looks like maybe GN Kelly or GK Nelly. But I also don’t think that’s the maker’s signature. Agreed. Looks like the hasty work of a naughty child (but might be wrong)

    Agreed

I don’t know. It seems your library table can even date from the 1910’s or so to 1950’s or so. Better wait from the members that really known furniture. But it can look very nice refurbished/renewed..

I think G.N. Kelly has been a naughty boy.

I think the naughty boy's middle initial is an H, and it's a library table all right (no one says it can't be your desk). Looks Edwardian to me, but can't see details close enough. ghopper will have the final word on whether it's Victorian or later, but all in all, very nice!

Could we have a close-up of the feet, please? Not yours...the table? :shame:

Naughty boy back when they were allowed to carry pocket knives. Or He used the pointy end of the protractor. I caught many of my student using theirs to carve in the desk.

Circa 1900, oak. Signature has nothing to do with the maker. Value is dependent on where and how selling. This would be around $150.00 at retail here in my semi-rural Midwest location. You might do better in CA. At auction or other wholesale venues, a lot less.
