Found this ball (red) at a sale recently. I haven’t seen one similar. Tried to find early baseballs with a middle seam but no luck. Pictured next to it is a definite early baseball I own. They are about the same size. Anyone have any ideas on if this is a baseball or some other type of ball? 19CAF64C-7A81-45F3-8F92-2BC424E2EB53.jpeg 65500A6C-EBA7-4805-A965-692FEAA2441B.jpeg 2D5B161A-BDEC-4877-BF0D-9D9BE1B57396.jpeg

Speaking of cricket. I was metal detecting a huge old farm field this summer. A large portion of it has been allowed to grow grass and is used for recreation. Saw a bunch of presumably Indian guys starting to gather with their duffel bags. More and more arrived at a place you wouldn’t imagine anyone other than dog walkers and rc plane guys would go. Finally they organized in the middle of the field and spread out and began to play a cricket for hours. Someone had made an official what I believe you call a pitch in the field. Pretty neat. Last place you’d expect to see it. Was a neat neighbor to my activities and fun to observe. I had never seen cricket in person before that.

    Come to the UK!
Most towns and even villages have their own cricket club. Most schools play it and a drive around on a summer Sunday will find a cricket match somewhere near!.

I've got some idea, too many Dorothy L Sayers novels in earlier years, and we've lots of Jamaican immigrants locally. Cricket clubs are around.

I didn't think old cricketers ever left, they just move to the sidelines and kibbitz.

Glad to see Roy Harper was cleared of all wrongdoing. He's not my cup of tea but he's an institution

Cricket is a civilised thing. What other game has a formal stop for afternoon tea?

You play a match, not a cricket, and yes, a pitch. Which will have stumps, a crease and so forth.

If you want fanatical, go to Barbados. The entire island is obsessed with it.

I don't think we were sent many Barbadians. I think my town is 25% Jamaican, but not a lot from Barbados. East Hartford CT has at least one dedicated cricket pitch; I'm surprised there isn't one here too.
