I found these at my local thrift store Thur. I was wondering your thoughts of the Agy Attila painting (I know it's dirty!)?

The haitian painting is beautiful but I can't find the artist anywhere - maybe I'm seeing it wrong? It looks like Lionel Mathirin(?) to me - but I can't find him & I am thinking he has to be known with talent to make this painting, right? (I also am a little worried that it doesn't sound like a Haitian name - please tell me they don't make "factory" Haitian paintings?!)

Finally I found a large (41" x 29") J Roybal painting with children & horses - I was only able to find 1 other painting by him with horses in it; more valuable?

As always thank you guys for your help - I'd be in trouble without this forum!

Aren't the Roybal paintings factory art? They've been on the boards before.

You would be amazed at how much you can improve your eye by going to art museums from time to time.

I see Mathirin, like Journey. Mathirin is a French name, a variation on Mathurin, so a Haitian painter could have a surname like Mathirin.

Had to really enlarge it, but can see Mathirin now. :)

Someone who signs himself Nagy Attila has been copying pins from my Pinterest boards to his own.

It is. You're supposed to feel flattered. Just a surprise to have encountered this name twice in a day.

BTW, in case anyone was unsure, I believe the name Nagy is pronounced 'nahj' in the original.

Correct. The way I have always heard it (as in Imre Nagy, for instance), the a sounds somewhere in between ah and oh.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

You seem to find quite a bit of Haitian art. Are you familiar with this organization, The Haitian Art Society? https://haitianartsociety.org/waterloo-center-for-the-arts They are based in Waterloo, Iowa (USA) at the Waterloo Center for the Arts, which they say has "the largest publicly held collection of Haitian artwork in the world."

They do have a directory of artists on that website but I don't find the one that signed your current painting.

I think I heard of it but I didn't expect it to be in Iowa!! I will send them a email with a photo to see if they know anything about the artist - he's pretty good to not be known!
    Thank you!
