Silverplate or sterling? Age?

Hello everyone, picked this up today at thrift store. I'm Hoping someone can help me out. Sterling or Silverplate? Age? I did a little research but could not determine what it is. Thanks in advance. It has the number 27 on inside of lid also, see pic. Thank you

 

Plated. Whenever you see "silver soldered" that's a decent indication that the item is plated.

 

The maker dates from about 1905 - 1920 (when it was sold.)

No offense intended.... but IMHO..... NO....not a nice piece....even at $3.

It looks like restaurant wear that's had a long hard life , rode hard , and was put away wet !
It's scuffed...dinged up...the lid no longer seats well, it's been cleaned so often the plating is all but worn away in many locations & it's design at best...is pedestrian.
Sitting on a shelf , at a thrift....I'd pass it by .....saying a little prayer thanking it for it's many years of service !

 

Komo's post basically explains why Silverplate is basically dead in the water these days. Nobody wants it. Nobody buys it. It holds next to no value at all. When I worked in a charity shop, we would sell it for cents a pound, and even then we couldn't get rid of it.
