I bought a lot of glass bead necklaces, mainly Czech for repairs and restringing and thought these were interesting.
Sadly missing a lot of paint (transfers?) with unusual bead caps. I think they have been restrung as the red beads are only on one side so the clasp may not be original.
I suspect they are going to be tricky to clean as the rest of the paint may come off although I haven’t tried yet.
They seem different to most Czech beads but WDIK.
Love to know what you think, any ideas of age or origin please. Thanks for looking :)

More like a distant cousin of Essex crystal. Very distant.....:playful:

How sweet, not seen this type before. Even with the paint loss it has a look so I think it was definitely worth picking up.

Has a Deco feel to me but really not sure on the origin. I would try cleaning with a qtip in mild detergent to start and test a small area to ensure it's not water soluble. I don't think I would want to go with any strong cleaners on this.

Once clean if the paint still seems like it is coming off easily I may be tempted to try artists fixative or similar to preserve it for longer.

Those are so cool! I agree with 1930s as a time frame. Nothing easy to be done about the paint loss, I think just a rescue mission for some very cool glass painted beads. Any cleaning might finish off the paint. Interesting metal spacers. I would guess Czech or maybe even Japan.

Would have grabbed these too, just so unusual. Have to imagine other examples were tossed when the paint came off, as in a quick search I didn't find any others.

They must have been something when new. :)

I love little oddities like this, even with the paint loss they deserve saving.

    Good plan

That’s a good idea. I’ll test patch one.

Thanks Lucille, I think you are right, once the paint started to wear off, most would have been thrown away. I don’t think my artistic skills are up to a repaint and wouldn’t do them justice. I will clean up and restring and see what they look like then.

Monday morning "wow" when I saw the photo, just so cool! Kindred spirit here for unusual glass. :)
