Kutani figurine, what do the markings on the bottom mean?

    Unfortunately the script is too scrawled for me to make out, but I can say it appears to be cast earthenware - Kutani is porcelain, so it's not a Kutani item. It does look well made but it's not a style that I recognise. Do you have any clue as to the date?

    I agree, not Kutani.

    I can't help with the markings, but I can tell you the figure is Jurojin, the Japanese equivalent of the Chinese Taoist Star God Shou Xing.
    Jurojin is one of the seven Gods of Fortune and a symbol of longevity. On the scroll attached to his staff is written the lifespan of all beings.

    How large is the piece? I have found that the larger pieces are oftentimes more desirable & this one also looks to be very well done.
