This appears to be a print/reproduction, but I just wanted confirmation. Can anyone else see the ink dots?

    Thanks.

It's a little decorative work and an interpretation of Boucher's portrait of Madame de Pompadour. It appears to be done in oil but hard to tell from your photographs.

Here's a closeup- it looks like it might be a copy, but it was interesting to learn that it was based on a painting!

@eastcoastcurious - hoping in the future you will select 'show all photos full size' so we don't have to deal with so many thumbnails - TY

OK! I wasn't sure which one would be better for this type of post.

Definitely a reproduction, but of a much later copy of the picture Deborah showed. The original is an 18th C painting, but there's something about the rendering of your image that makes it entirely 20th C, and I would say post WWII.

So a reproduction of a mid-century modern copy.

Yes, it does look as if it's been "modernized."

Agree. 'Big Eyes', 20th century plucked eyebrows, and a much more modest and innocent expression on her face than our canny Madame de Pompadour, a lady who could have ruled the world given half a chance.;)

I thought it seemed modern - thanks everyone
