Antique folk Art Black Man With Some Type Stamp On Bottom

This is a very old hand carved wood carving of a black man has some type of name or mark on the bottom,bought this from an attic sale many years ago,just don't know much about it.I've displayed it for years.I would love to know something about it.

 

A stick someone whiddled on their free time.

This item came out of the attic of a black family.I bought many items from that attic.The family was 2 old sisters who lived there until they passed.They were I believe about 90 and 98 somewhere in that age.I have so many of their items.There wasn't any relatives living,the house was sold,the owners sold the attic out.

 

I love it -- but sadly, I think if there is a story to be told, it would have to come from the family.

 

There's no one left.There's pictures from Fisk Unversity,autograph book of students from Lemoye College in the 1930's..Old books that has negro etiquette,I have slave papers.There were several of us in the attic,some found items I bought from them.I'm a collector of old black memorabilia.Some I've researched for years and still can't find anything.Trying to insure some items I have for my grands and great grands,others I will sell

 

Looks like P overlapping Q, not likely to help, though.

Folk art is often difficult to attribute to a specific artist. Maybe this book will help:
