Japanese or Chinese Kama Sutra ???

Bought this for $15 at the local auction yesterday and it surprised me that
I got it so cheap. Anything naked or remotely sexual the locals usually go
ape for it. Anyway I'm trying to figure out if it is Chinese or Japanese in origin.
Looks kinda Japanese to me. There must be a name for these things apart
from “positions for dummies” but I can't think of it.
Any ideas???

Stephen, I agree, this would usually attract a lot of buyers. Asiatica and erotica, two popular interests.
By the way, if it were Indian it would be Kama Sutra. A Karma Sutra would have an entirely different content.

 

Oops. The "karmasutra" seems to be a pc game. Any ideas as to what to call it apart from "Chinese erotica". I'm sure there is a name for these books but I just can't remember it.

 

You might not like the cheeky price I was thinking of. Somewhere around
$150-180.

 

I think in English the term is 'pillow book'.

A little late as the initial post is from 2017, but since I just joined, in case anyone else trips over this thread: This his Chinese, not Japanese. These paintings are called (in Chinese,) Chun Hua, or "Spring Paintings" and in Japanese "Shunga." The albums are called "pillow books." The particular one you bought was cheap because it's not an antique. The three characters on the cover read "Chun Hua Gong."
These albums are being mass produced in China these days and made to look old... Same with erotic jades and most "Hong Shan" (style) pieces that can be found on eBay these days. The Chinese are experts at copying everything and found out over the last decade that sex sells... There are some neat pieces around, even copies, and "real fake antiques" nonetheless... Sometimes, the best thing to focus on is simply: If you like it, by it --- if you can afford it of course...
