Metal Chimes

These were found by my father in a fallen down cabin in southeast Virginia in the 60's. Any clues would be helpful.

 

I was going to suggest tibetan but enlarging the photo I see storks which would be more japanese

Nice, they look like Japanese hanging bells, probably early 20th century. Similar here:

They do not produce a tone that would be consistent with western scales so Japanese is a good guess.

 

They are beautiful. How did Japanese chimes find their way to a cabin in Virginia?

 

Some other interesting things came out of that cabin including a shop register from the 1700s with an entry of a sale to George Washington.

 

I've seen things like these for sale in the US in the past 30 years.

 

I'm guessing not for a lot of money.

 

I don't remember because I did not buy a set. They were featured in garden accessories.

 

You'd be surprised. Ive long wanted a set of clear glass wind chimes that were made in the 50s-60s (my grandmother had several and I loved the sound) but vintage ones are absurd.
