Picked up this ring today because Miriam is my sister's Hebrew name. Only after I bought it did I get thinking about the way it's constructed. It's rather rough, with no sign of gold plating. The name Mariam is incised into the top. There is some wear to both the inside and the outside. Any thoughts on age or origin?

Also bought this perfume bottle necklace. It has a metal dipper inside and has some clear wear to it. It looks like the front of it was plated with copper or rose-gold at some point 20181209_164253-1.jpg 20181209_164121.jpg

The ring looks like a bad casting, not sure what to make of the rough filing on the inside. The name appears to have been done with an onglette graver or similar tool and with the "flash" at the ends of the cuts it was probably made by a student, etc. with little experience.

The ring is typical of little tourist souvenir pieces sold all over the Middle East and North Africa. Your name is punched in with a chisel type tool on the spot. The wee bottle looks to be North African as well.

Darn. Oh well, I only paid 1 euro for it.
Disappointing but not surprised. I'll see if my sister wants it, and if not, i'll just list it for a couple dollars. Figure I could probably recoup my losses with the perfume bottle necklace.

I'm with obb, both are Middle Eastern or Egyptian souvenirs. The bottle could be a kajal bottle, depends on the shape of the dipper.
If Miriam is your sister's Hebrew name, Mariam is her Arabic name.:)

I think they're both charming - and I'd have spent a euro, especially with the name. Probably would have given it to my Lebanese neighbour, Mariam.
