Unsigned Painting

Hey everyone! Got this interesting piece today. Unfortunately I can’t find a signature anywhere. Only clue I have is the sticker in the back but can’t make anything of it. Anyone have any clue I’m missing?

 

I may be imagining it, but I see an "e" "F" and "s" in this region.

Given the composition, it could be a piece of commercial art with space on the left for text. Commercial art frequently isn't signed, the artwork is secondary to the product.

But it looks like it’s hand painted? You think an artist was commissioned for an advertisement that never made it to the piece?

 

From the photos it looks hand painted to me. It's a guess that it might be commercial art. If so, it would only be one part of the production process. Once the art was approved, if it was approved, it would be turned over to other departments to be photographed, to have the text added, etc. There may be an ad, or article, or story out there illustrated with the image, or perhaps it was never approved. A day's pay for the artist and, yes, if the editors decided it didn't convey the impression they wanted, then it may never have been used. It's all just conjecture.

Every image you see in print, every ad, every illustration, every cartoon or comic, started off as somebody's art and frequently in some medium far removed from its published state.

 

Of course, I could be wrong but... I would think that an unlikely subject for commercial art.

I can see it as a story illustration in something like a Sci-Fi magazine.

 

2000-M-9 looks like a date.
