IMG_0926.JPG I have come into this Highboy dresser along with its companion, an 8 drawer sideboard with mirror and 2 matching nightstands. All the pieces are stamped Gibbard Craftsmen & look to be Cherrywood? I don't think they're Mahogany. Anyone know how old these are? I'm thinking built in 70's? Also if they have any value outside of normal bedroom set, I'd be interested to know as it would make the difference between me restoring the pieces or refinishing them. Thanks y'all!

Gibbard furniture is a highly respected Canadian brand. The company was established in 1835 and closed in 2009. In 1964 they established their Canadian Legacy Line, using mahogany and cherry woods,
If your other pieces are in the same condition that this highboy seems to be, I would not refinish, maybe just a light coating of quality paste furniture wax like Briwax would bring the pieces back to life. Sorry, I couldn't find any reference to their Craftsman Line.

Hi and WELCOME, @Tirzajoy!!! Your Dresser looks lovely!! In the future, could you please ALWAYS post FULL SIZE images. Those using cell phones have a very difficult time with tiny images....along with those of us with 'older' eyes!!!! Thank you SO MUCH!!! This might help, if you need it!!!

Can't add much to what Sandra has provided. Unless this company specializes in period style furniture, would think this older than the date you suspect. Not having first-hand knowledge about the company, this is just conjecture. Most American companies made nothing like this in the 70s.

This is made by Gibbard of Napanee. It's mahogany, and it's the Somerset design. It was made until at least the late 1980's. It's not the Canadian Legacy line, which was the most widely distributed of Gibbard's products and represented about 40% of the company's output for the last couple decades of its corporate life. Lovely piece--just clean it up and buff it.
