Hi, I found these the other day next to some garbage cans. I think there is supposed to be a clock that goes with them, but was wondering if anybody could give me anymore insight into them? 20220119_073347.jpg 20220119_073405.jpg

Those are ebonised wood most likely, Eastlake-style planter stands, c.1875-ish. Those water stains may be difficult to remove. What a great find!

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

People are crazy with what they throw out and too lazy to go to either a thrift store or a ReStore!!!!!

I just had a thought ...if these are Japan-lacquered wood. In an inconspicuous area try very lightly rubbing the water mark with some auto rubbing compound paste and a soft cloth. It might remove it. If it looks like it is scratching the surface, stop!

Are they wood? Lots were made from slate.

I believe they are made of marble. alot of the pieces were missing off of them, but i found them in a bag that was laying right by them, one piece was broken, kind of reminds me of ceramic tile but the pieces are black all the way through. They are pretty heavy as well, about 20lbs each i would say 20220122_124424.jpg 20220122_124543.jpg

Well that's good news! Marble can be repolished by a professional. Any way to tell what is missing by jigsawing?

I see lots here in U.K. and they are usually made from slate. The colour of yours looks like slate to me.

Some judiciously applied stove black might help?

As long as they get put out for trash when one of us is driving by! Pretty nice score.

Exactly. Think of all the stuff that doesn’t get saved though. Enough to make you weep. I made $300+ the other day on a vintage gaming pc my neighbor threw out recently.

On the other hand, the game system as worth that money because everyone else threw them out. So....

Maybe, it all depends on what system it was...

But if so, thanks again to all of the idiots that make stuff valuable for us resellers!

    That's slate.

I once found two bronze Chinese stands on a skip.

Ridiculous. Idiotic. I want to live in Crispy's neighborhood.

I feel like wringing my hands and screaming "whyyyyyyy" at the sky. I wonder if there's a meme for that? :)

Anyway, Houseful and Owned are dead on. Slate. Restore these as best you can, then find a big Victorian 1870s slate-cased clock to go with them. Sell for a profit.....or keep. You can't go wrong either way.

Incidentally, a restored threesome would be called a girandole or garniture.
